8 DEAD AFTER CAR EXPLODES IN NEW DELHI

New Delhi, India — At least eight people were killed after a car exploded in India’s capital, New Delhi, on Monday evening.

According to New Delhi Police, the blast occurred before 7:00 PM Indian time when a slow-moving Hyundai i20 stopped at a red light near an intersection close to the Red Fort, one of the country’s most popular tourist spots.

The explosion was powerful enough to set several nearby vehicles damaged, leaving also 20 others injured.

Initial reports confirmed that three people were inside of the car at the time of the explosion.

However, the vehicle’s ownership and motive are still under investigation, but terrorism has been one of the possible causes.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his condolences to the families of the victims and ensured the government’s swift response.

Delhi and nearby regions have been placed on high alert as of the time being as investigations continue.

This marks one of the deadliest incidents in the capital since the 2011 High Court bombing, which killed more than 10 people.
