DOJ FILES 4 TAX EVASION CASES VS. CONTRACTOR CURLEE DISCAYA

Manila, Philippines – In connection with ongoing investigation on contractor Pacifico “Curlee” Discaya, he is now formally charged with tax evasion cases before the Court of Tax Appeals.

On Thursday, Prosecutor General Richard Anthony Fadullon confirmed the filing of four tax evasion charges against Discaya, after initial delays due to a filed motion for reconsideration.

Fadullon said that the motion was eventually dismissed, allowing the Department of Justice to filed necessary charges over Discaya’s alleged failure to file tax returns and correct tax information.

Discaya is the sole proprietor of St. Gerard Construction linked with the issue on anomalous flood control projects.

He is currently under the custody of the Senate.

Last year, the government estimated P7.18 billion tax liabilities of Discaya, including unpaid income taxes and documentary taxes on divestments in four construction firms.

If convicted for tax evasion, Discaya may face 10 years of imprisonment along a P100,000 fine.
