Manila, Philippines — Malacañang has urged the public to refrain from panic buying amid the anticipated effects of the El Niño phenomenon, warning that excessive purchasing could create unnecessary fear and anxiety among consumers.
Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said there is no reason for the public to panic, emphasizing that proper preparation is more advisable than excessively stocking up on basic necessities due to fears of possible shortages in the market.
Castro noted that panic buying can affect the way people make decisions, as fear and anxiety may prevent consumers from making calm and informed choices.
The communications official also emphasized that the government is already preparing measures to address the possible effects of severe drought and ease public concerns.
Malacañang likewise encouraged the public to remain calm and vigilant and to follow proper preparedness measures instead of hoarding products out of fear of possible shortages.
