President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has appointed former executive secretary Oscar Orbos as the acting chairperson and member of the Board of Directors of the People’s Television Network, Inc. (PTNI), a state-run broadcaster.
The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) announced Thursday that Orbos, representing the private sector, took his oath before Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.
Orbos previously held key positions during the administration of the late President Corazon Aquino, serving as executive secretary as well as secretary of transportation and communications from 1990 to 1991.
He also represented Pangasinan’s first district in Congress from 1987 to 1990 and was the province’s governor from 1995 to 1998.
Orbos is also known for co-hosting the GMA Network program “Debate with Mare at Pare” alongside economist Solita “Mareng Winnie” Monsod.
In addition to Orbos’ appointment, Marcos named political analyst Antonio Contreras as acting vice chairperson and member of the PTNI Board, representing the educational sector.
Katherine Chloe de Castro, a former general manager of PTNI, was appointed director general of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), while Francis Carlo Taparan was appointed Director IV of the National Printing Office (NPO).
