JANUARY 2025 INFLATION REMAINS AT FLAT 2.9%

Manila, Philippines — The rate of inflation in the Philippines during the January 2025 period were recorded at 2.9%, Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported.

Based on the Summary Inflation report of PSA, last month’s rate of inflation was the same with the December 2024 inflation rate.

This retention is attributed to the faster annual increment in food and non-alcoholic beverages at 3.8%, alcoholic beverages and tobacco at 3.5%, as well as transportation at 1.1%.

Financial services, on the other hand, recorded zero inflation rate on January 2025.

Despite the retained overall inflation rate, food inflation increased to 4.0% this January from the 3.5% during December 2024.

This was attributed to the higher increment in vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas, and pulses at 21.1%, fish and other seafood at 3.3%, and meat at 6.4%.

Furthermore, based on PSA’s report, the inflation rate in the National Capital Region in the January 2025 period declined to 2.8%, while inflation in areas outside NCR remained at 2.9%.
