MERALCO CHARGES HIGHER ELECTRICITY RATES IN FEB

Manila, Philippines — Electricity provider Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) will hike its charges on electricity consumption for the month of February.

In an advisory on Tuesday, Meralco announced that for the month of February, electricity prices will increase by 28 centavos per kilowatt hour of consumption.

This hike translates to an additional of P57 in the electric billing of a household consuming 200kwh a month.

Likewise, this upward adjustment in the electric costs pushes the overall rate to P12.0262 from the P11.7428 per kWh last January.

Meralco attributed this month’s increase to the higher generation charge, which increased by P0.3845 per kWh.

Generation charges—which usually accounts at least half of the electricity bill—are based off of the costs from independent power producers and power supply agreements.

Following these adjustments, consumers with Meralco as the electricity provider—from Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal, and selected areas in Pampanga, Laguna, Batangas and Quezon—shall brace for the higher electricity bills this February.
