The Department of Transportation (DOTr) implements a 50% discount for students in LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3 starting this Friday, June 20.
This is open for all students including those who are taking their post-graduate studies.
This new policy is in accordance with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr’s directive to alleviate the students’ situation through an affordable transportation fee.
According to DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon, it is part of the president’s directive to increase the 20% discount to 50% for all students, effective during weekdays, weekends, and even in holidays until 2028.
(These are the stations with the most riderships of students and just like the President’s directive, we should help students especially now that it has only been a week since the classes started. At the very least, we know how struggling life is so a little help to students is already impactful.)
The DOTr reminded that in order to avail the discount, students must present their ID.
However, the discount is not applicable for Beep Cards or Stored Value Tickets.
Meanwhile, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) announced a possible 1 peso fare hike next week due to the rising fuel prices brought by the conflict between Iran and Israel.
(Due to the consistently increasing price of gasoline, the board has decided to grant the request of a provisional increase. Based on the board’s deliberation, a 1 peso increase is possible; however, this remains a subject for validation from the National Economic and Development Authority or NEDA.) | via Shai Morales, Contributor
