A NEW COOPERATION: PBBM’S UPCOMING STATE VISIT TO CAMBODIA

Manila, Philippines — Upon the invitation of His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos will undertake a State Visit to Cambodia from the 7th to the 9th of September 2025.

The President and the First Lady will be received by Acting Head of State and Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and his spouse, Samdech Kittipritthbindit Bun Rany Hun Sen, on behalf of His Majesty.

Beyond strengthening the long-standing people-to-people ties between the two nations, the President bilateral meeting with Cambodia’s Senate President Hun Sen and Prime Minister Hun Manet is centered on key objectives namely to diversify trade and economic relations to strengthen cooperation in addressing transnational crimes and to seek support for the Philippines’ chairmanship of ASEAN in 2026. 

During the visit, the President expected to keynote a roundtable meeting with Filipino and Cambodian business leaders to explore ways to diversify sources of goods and expand market access between the two countries.

The President also expected to engage with the Filipino Community in Cambodia, comprising over 7,500 Filipinos mostly professionals in education and service sectors, to acknowledge their valuable contributions to both Philippine and Cambodian society.

The President’s delegation to Cambodia will be joined by key cabinet officials, including DFA Secretary Lazaro, Secretary of Agriculture Laurel, DTI Secretary Roque, and Migrant Workers Secretary Cacdac.

The CHED Chairperson and PCO Acting Secretary Gomez will also be part of the delegation.

The State visit reciprocates the official visit to the Philippines of Cambodian Prime Minister in February 2025 and will be the first State visit to Cambodia in almost 9 years.— Alea Crazu, Lei Valdoz,  Contributor
