Manila, Philippines – The large-scale protest set to be held on September 21 is fully prepared by groups of youth, workers from various sectors, including fishermen, indigenous peoples, content creators, and other organizations.
It was assured by the various groups, stating that no obstacle will stop them from expressing their sentiments about the current situation of the country, not only demanding accountability from corrupt officials but also on other issues.
In a press conference, various groups tear photos of prominent government officials attached to a chain they made, while expressing their anger over what they claim is the government’s negligence, which led to a flawed flood control project.
They further emphasized that while the corrupt indulge in luxury, they continue to cry and suffer from floods caused by failures in governance.
They said the theft committed by these officials is also a theft of the future of coming generations.
Ka Leody De Guzman expressed that the issue should not only focus on holding corrupt officials accountable but also on ending political dynasties, which are the root cause of corruption.
Despite the protests planned, it is worth remembering that the Palace has already said that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. does not fear the series of actions from various groups.
In fact, the President believes these groups are allies in the advocacy to end corruption.
It is also remembered that the President did not attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in the United States, but the Palace clarified that this was not due to the protests.
Nevertheless, the rallyists see this as a positive sign that the government is being affected by their actions.
According to Bagong Alyansa Makabayan, other groups in Bohol, General Santos, Laoag City, San Fernando City, La Union, Bacolod, Davao, Iloilo, Cebu, Tuguegarao, Santiago City, and Benguet in Baguio have also expressed initial plans for actions and are expected to increase as the day of simultaneous protests approaches.—Vanessa Cleofas, Eurotv News
