ALAS PILIPINAS UNVEILS 14-MAN SQUAD FOR HISTORIC WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP DEBUT 

Manila, Philippines – The Philippines is set to make its first-ever appearance at the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship, with Bryan Bagunas and Marck Espejo leading a 14-man roster.

The Philippine National Volleyball Federation revealed the lineup on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, blending seasoned veterans and rising collegiate talents. 

Veteran player Bagunas, returning from a knee injury, and compatriot Espejo, recovering from an ankle setback, will spearhead the Nationals as they aim to make an impact on the global stage.

Joining them on the wings are emerging talents Buds Buddin (NU), Louie Ramirez (Cignal), and Jade Disquitado (NU). Cignal setter Owa Retamar continues as the primary playmaker, supported by Eco Adajar.

In the middle, veterans Kim Malabunga (Criss Cross) and rising stars Peng Taguibolos (NU) and Lloyd Josafat (Cignal) offer height and athleticism. 

Leo Ordiales (NU) is expected to share opposite duties with Ramirez.

On defense, liberos Josh Ybañez (UST), Jack Kalingking (Navy), and Vince Lorenzo (Cignal) anchor floor coverage and first-ball control.

With the roster finalized, Alas Pilipinas now turns its focus to preparing for its historic debut.

Italian Angiolino Frigoni will serve as head coach, with Alejandro Aldana and local mentors Odjie Mamon, Dante Alinsunurin, and Dexter Clamor.

Alas Pilipinas will face Tunisia, Iran, and Egypt in Pool A of the tournament.—Lloyd Demependan, Contributor
