Angel Canino’s Absence in SEA V.League: Alas Pilipinas to Compete Without Star Player

De La Salle University’s Angel Canino will not be joining Alas Pilipinas in the upcoming Southeast Asian Volleyball League.

Alas head coach Jorge de Brito confirmed this on Thursday in a message to ABS-CBN News, stating that only the players who participated in the training camp in Japan would represent the national team in the regional tournament.

The reason for Canino’s absence is her ongoing commitments with La Salle.

“She is in DLSU,” De Brito explained. “Only players here will be able to play there [in SEA V.League].”

The national team, led by De Brito along with seniors Jia de Guzman and Dawn Catindig, recently commenced a two-week training camp in Osaka, Japan, as reported by the Premier Volleyball League.

The training pool includes Creamline’s Jema Galanza; Choco Mucho’s Sisi Rondina and Cherry Nunag; Akari’s Faith Nisperos and Fifi Sharma; Chery Tiggo’s Eya Laure and Jen Nierva; Cignal’s Vanie Gandler; PLDT’s Dell Palomata; Zus Coffee’s Thea Gagate; and Galeries’ Julia Coronel.

Also part of the squad are National University’s Bella Belen, Alyssa Solomon, and Arah Panique.

New additions, Tia Andaya and Hannah Stires, from Central Washington University complete the pool.
