BAGUIO CITY LOGS ITS 2ND MPOX CASE

Baguio City, Philippines — Baguio City recorded its 2nd case of Mpox infection detected a day after the first case’s recovery, the City Health Service Office (CHSO) confirmed.

In a press release, CHSO said that their surveillance team has detected the 2nd Mpox case in the city and was reported to the Department of Health (DOH) on January 18.

The 2nd patient is a 22-year old male resident of Baguio City with no travel history outside the Philippines but admitted to having close contact two weeks before he had the symptoms.

The patient reported to have experienced flu-like symptoms with body malaise, chills, and fatigue. Rashes on his palms, face, arms, thorax, and back areas came after.

Upon consultation, he was confirmed to be positive with the Clade II type, same as the first case, which is the less severe type of the disease.

On January 21, the patient was discharged from hospitalization and was sent for home isolation throughout his recovery.

Two of the identified close contacts of the patient were asymptomatic but were advised for quarantine until February 6 and February 24, respectively, to monitor any symptom that may follow.

Following this, the City government and health office reminded the public to still adhere with the health guidelines and protocols advised such as frequent handwashing, wearing of face mask, and physical distancing as the disease is transferrable through close contact with the infected individual.

Amid the recent cases and the upcoming large celebrations in the City, the government’s health office reminded the public to not panic and do not be alarmed as transmission and spread of the virus can be manageable and preventable through proper precautionary measures.
