Avellaneda, Greater Buenos Aires, Argentina — The small river near Buenos Aires in Argentina that turned red alarmed residents on Thursday, posing alleged leak in a factory.
On Thursday, Sarandí river was dyed with a bright shade of red, accompanied by a “nauseating” stench.
A report stated statements from residents in the area, noting that the bloody stream may be attributed to a leak from the nearby tannery factory.
This incident further posed alarm on residents in terms of industrial pollution in the area.
Some residents claimed that the red waters is just an example of the pollution of the Sarandí, as they have seen the river turn bluish, greenish, pink, and a slick of grease in the surface before.
The regional environment department said that investigation over the alleged leak is on going, and laboratory tests are conducted to determine the substance responsible for the discoloration.
The bright red color of the waters faded Thursday afternoon.
