Manila, Philippines — The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) officially launched the new Philippine polymer banknote series, designed to honor the country’s rich biodiversity and cultural identity.
These banknotes were presented to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in Malacañang, Thursday, December 19.
The series highlights iconic flora, fauna, and traditional weave patterns, moving away from the historical figures typically featured on previous notes.
It includes the P1,000 bill, first released in 2022, and newly designed P500, P100, and P50 denominations.
Features of Each Denomination
P1,000: Highlights the Philippine eagle, sampaguita, Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park, South Sea pearl, and T’nalak weave pattern.
P500: Showcases the Visayan spotted deer, Acanthephippium mantinianum orchid, Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, blue-naped parrot, and southern Philippine weave design.
P100: Features the Palawan peacock-pheasant, Ceratocentron fesselii orchid, Mayon Volcano, whale shark, and Bicol Region weave motif.
P50: Depicts the Visayan leopard cat, Vidal’s lanutan plant, Taal Lake, native maliputo fish, and Batangas embroidery design.
The polymer notes are recognized for their enhanced durability, lasting five times longer than paper currency, and include advanced security features to combat counterfeiting.
They also offer tactile markers for accessibility, benefiting the visually impaired.
Limited quantities of the new notes will be available in the Greater Manila Area starting December, with full nationwide circulation set for January 2025.
