COMELEC EYES PROCLAMATION OF GABRIELA PARTYLIST ON WEDNESDAY

Manila, Philippines – After almost four months since the 2025 National and Local Elections (NLE) last May, Gabriela Women’ s Party will be officially proclaimed as a member partylist organization of the House of Representatives.

In an interview, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairperson George Erwin Garcia confirmed that he signed on Monday the certificate of proclamation for Gabriela Partylist and its 1st nominee Sarah Elago.

After the members of the commission complete necessary signatories, Comelec expects to officially proclaim Gabriela as the 64th partylist in the House by Wednesday.

It can be recalled that Gabriela and other progressive groups have consistently urged Comele to proclaim the partylist getting the spot supposedly for Duterte Youth.

Duterte Youth’s registration has been declared void by both Comelec 2nd Division and en banc, halting their proclamation as election winners.

While there is still half a month left before the decision about the cancellation of Duterte Youth Partylist’s registration becomes finalized, the Comelec is studying as early as now on what process to enact to fill the three seats of the said void partylist.

On the other hand, Gabriela Partylist Rep. Sarah Elago expressed gratitude for the looming proclamation, committing to continue their fight inside the Congress.

“Taos-puso kaming nagpapasalamat sa lahat ng mga nagtitiwala at sa walang humpay na pangangalampag ng mga kababaihan, LGBTQIA+, kabataan, at iba’t ibang sumusuporta para maiproklama na ang Gabriela Women’s Party bilang tunay, palaban, at makabayang kinatawan ng kababaihan sa Kongreso,” Elago said.

Elago noted that they will not stop their tracks on their fight for the rights and protection of women, children, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community until there is a significant and evident change in the society. —Mia Layaguin, Eurotv News
