Manila, Philippines – After an ethics complaint before the Congress, Cavite 4th District Representative Francisco “Kiko” Barzaga is now facing a criminal complaint related to the violence incidents on the September 21 rally.
In a Facebook post, Barzaga shared a copy of a subpoena issued to him by the Quezon City Office of the Prosecutor on November 12 for a complaint filed by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Major Crimes Investigation Unit (CIDG-MCIU).
The complaint is about Barzaga’s alleged violation of Article 142 and Article 138 of the Revised Penal Code or inciting to sedition and rebellion acts, in relation to the violent incidents in Mendiola and Recto Manila amid the anti-corruption protest.
The subpoena however did not include further details and basis of the case.
According to the subpoena, Barzaga is required to appear before the prosecutor’s office on the 18th and 25th day of November to counter the case.
Motion to dismiss will not be allowed and Barzaga may only file for a counter-affidavit regarding the complaint.
In the same post, Barzaga tagged President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s account, dismissing the president over the said case.
Barzaga argued that this move will not stop people’s revolution against corruption.
