DA ASSURED ASSISTANCE FOR FARMERS, FISHERMEN AFFECTED BY TYPHOON AGHON

Manila Philippines — The Department of Agriculture (DA)is closely monitoring the agriculture sector and assured assistance for farmers and fishermen affected by typhoon Aghon.

Among the interventions are the placement of seeds for rice and corn, as well as drugs and biologics for cattle and poultry in safe storage facilities, according to Bulletin No. 3 of the DA-Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Operations Center.

The regional field offices of the DA are ready to conduct field monitoring for possible damages in collaboration with other national and regional offices related to DRRM and corresponding local government units.

The DA, on the other hand, advised farmers and fishermen to do early harvesting to avoid the effects caused by typhoon Aghon.

Also, farmers were encouraged to acquire seed reserves, planting materials, and farm inputs; move animals with enough food and water, move farm machinery, and equipment to higher ground, and clean irrigation drainage and rice paddies to prevent flooding.

Fishermen were also advised to avoid sea travel and move their fishing vessels to higher ground.
