Manila, Philippines – The death toll from the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck the province of Cebu has risen to 72, according to the latest report from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
The powerful tremor, which occurred two days ago, also left 294 people injured and affected a total of 47,221 families, equivalent to 170,959 individuals.
A total of 597 houses were reported damaged 501 of which were partially damaged, while 96 were completely destroyed.
The NDRRMC also reported that 87 infrastructure facilities, including old churches and buildings, sustained varying degrees of damage due to the quake.
Government response and relief operations are ongoing to assist those affected by the disaster.
