Manila, Philippines – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Mines and Geosciences Bureau (DENR-MGB) has issued a warning to more than 21,635 barangays nationwide that may experience landslides and flash floods due to the effects of Tropical Depression Verbena, the shearline, and the Northeast Monsoon.
According to the released Geohazard Advisory, areas with high risk include the regions of CAR, NCR, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao, SOCCSKSARGEN, and CARAGA.
In response, the DENR has instructed Local Government Units and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (P/C/M/BDRRMCs) to implement safety measures, including preemptive evacuation when necessary.
Residents are also advised to immediately report any signs of ground movement, sudden rise of water level, or the appearance of muddy water from drainage systems. Cracks on walls or flooring, as well as shifting trees or electric posts in steep areas, should also be reported to barangay officials to prevent possible disasters.
The DENR continues to coordinate with LGUs to ensure the safety of communities as adverse weather conditions persist across large parts of the country.
