Manila, Philippines – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has ordered all local government units (LGUs) in Northern and Central Luzon to strictly implement preemptive and mandatory evacuations in their respective barangays.
This comes amid the anticipated intensification of Super Typhoon Nando, which may bring heavy rains that could result in flooding and landslides.
According to the latest data from the DILG, more than 3,000 families or an estimated 10,000 individuals are currently staying in evacuation centers across Northern and Central Luzon.
The majority of evacuees are from Region II, with Cagayan accounting for 2,457 families or 7,639 individuals, followed by Isabela with 728 individuals.
A smaller number of evacuees are from Batanes and Nueva Vizcaya.
Other local government units that have already enforced mandatory evacuations due to Typhoon Nando include those in Apayao, Abra, Ilocos Norte, Aurora, and Nueva Ecija.
Aside from the evacuation orders, LGUs have also been reminded to enforce a liquor ban and a no-sail policy in coastal communities.
The DILG is advising residents living in danger zones and low-lying areas to voluntarily evacuate their homes to avoid unforeseen disasters that could pose serious risks.
