MANILA — On Monday, human rights lawyer Chel Diokno led Akbayan party-list’s bid for another term in the House of Representatives for the 2025 elections.
Akbayan recently reclaimed a House seat following the Supreme Court’s decision to cancel An Waray’s registration, allowing Akbayan to occupy the vacated position.
Alongside Diokno, the party’s other nominees include Perci Cendaña, Akbayan’s current representative, and Moro leader Dadah Kiram Ismula.
In his speech, Diokno praised Akbayan’s long-standing commitment to public service.
If elected, he vowed to carry forward the work of Akbayan stalwart Senator Risa Hontiveros, who has been at the forefront of investigations into POGOs, Alice Guo, and Pastor Apollo Quiboloy.
Diokno initially expressed his intent to run for senator, but last month made a surprising shift to run as Akbayan’s lead nominee.
