DMW PREPS AID FOR OFWS AFFECTED OF TYPHOON CARINA IN TAIWAN

Manila Philippines — The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is preparing the aid for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) affected by Typhoon Carina with the international name of Gaemi in the country of Taiwan.

After Typhoon Gaemi devastated the Philippines, which left at least twenty-one death, it next hit the country of Taiwan.

According to the DMW, they are coordinating with the Manila Economic Office (MECO) in Taiwan for immediate assistance to the affected OFWs.

“Together with the Chairman Silvestre Bello III and the MECO, we have established a Taiwan Help Desk to monitor the situation of OFWs in Taiwan, receive reports and requests for assistance, and coordinate relief efforts for affected Taiwan OFWs,” said Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac.

So far, no OFWs have been injured or killed in Taiwan due to typhoon Gaemi, but the agency continues to monitor the situation of Filipinos there.

“So far, there are no reported casualties or injuries from among Taiwan OFWs.  However, we continue to actively monitor the situation, especially in severely affected areas,” Cacdac added.

DMW also advised OFWs in Taiwan to stay in a safe places.

Typhoon Gaemi made a landfall in Taiwan yesterday, bringing heavy rain and strong winds that reached 205 kilometers per hour.

Typhoon Gaemi hits the mainland China, particularly in the south-eastern province of Fujian, where more than 150,000 people are affected.
