Pasay City, Philippines — The Department of Justice is now seeking the cancellation of former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque’s passport.
DOJ Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla says that this is the next step of the government to secure the return of Roque to the Philippines to face his charges as well as the arrest warrant filed against him.
While aware that the arrest warrant won’t take effect immediately as Roque has a pending asylum request in the Netherlands, Remulla clarified that this measure is a step anticipating the decision on the asylum bid.
Remulla noted that if Roque’s passport will be cancelled, he will then become an undocumented alien, hence, up for deportation.
He added that if the asylum request is rejected, the deportation process will take effect soon after as long as his passport is cancelled.
Remulla revealed that they have drafted a request letter and he will be signing it soon.
With this, Remulla believes that the government of the Netherlands will not tolerate the grave crimes and cases of Roque in their decision regarding the asylum request.
DOJ earlier said that they are already preparing documents to request a red notice from the Interpol against Roque.
Under the red notice, law enforcements worldwide will locate and provisionally arrest an individual tagged under the red notice requested by the member country.
