Manila, Philippines – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is in full swing rehabilitating the Maharlika Highway in preparation for the Holy Week.
The DPWH plans to remove obstructions along the Maharlika Highway before the end of March this year.
According to DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon, all obstruction and clearing works on the Maharlika Highway, particularly in Bicol, Samar, and Quezon, should be completed before the Semana Santa.
He said potholes and uneven roads will be temporarily patched to make them passable for motorists.
Meanwhile, the secretary assured that after the Holy Week, the long-term rehabilitation plan of the highway will begin.
The agency has three plans for the long-term rehab of the Maharlika Highway, one of which is the agency’s hiring of big contractors, foreign consultants and the use of modern technology.
The secretary clarified that small contractors will no longer work on big projects like the Maharlika Highway.
He said it is necessary to use advanced technologies and consultations from abroad for faster construction.
