Manila, Philippines – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) confirmed the rescheduled EDSA rehabilitation process in 2026, alongside seeking affordable technology that can help accelerate the construction.
This was after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. suspended the initial plan last June 1, and suggested for the agency to find technology-driven actions as the construction will cause problems to public transportation.
Moreover, the delay rooted as the rainy season started, with Christmas rush coming in the Ber months, opting to start the rehab next year.
According to DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, the agency is now studying the rehabilitation process and is looking for technology that can help them with accelerating the construction.
Based on the original plan, the construction will start to rehabilitate lane by lane, but is now set to fix the road through applying a second layer instead of destroying it, which costs 8 billion to 17 billion.
Bonoan also added that odd and even schemes will also be implemented while the construction is said to be done by night to prevent the high volume of vehicles.
On the other hand, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) plotted to add buses in EDSA busway and is figuring out the possibility of operating the MRT-3, earlier its scheduled operation. — Maica Villegas, Contributor
