EJ Obiena is back on track!
The Filipino Olympian opened his indoor pole vault season with a comeback win as he successfully sealed the silver medal in men’s pole vaulting event during the 2025 International Jump Meeting Cottbus in Brandenburg, Germany.
He easily cleared the 5.40, 5.55, and 5.65 meters with one attempts each, before he decided to skip the 5.70 meters.
However, he did not succeed in clearing the 5.75 meters after three attempts, placing him at the silver finish behind USA’s Sam Kendricks who cleared the said height.
The silver finish is still a big win as it marked Obiena’s first competition since his hiatus during his 2024 pole vault season.
It can be recalled that in August 2024, just weeks after his Paris Olympics journey, Obiena announced a ‘premature close’ to his 2024 pole vaulting campaign due to a back injury.
Although the injury unfortunately ended his 2024 season earlier that expected, the Filipino pole vaulter promised to return in good shape on his 2025 campaign.
