Pasay City, Philippines — Senate Francis “Chiz” Escudero formally took oath as the presiding officer of the impeachment court in the trial against Vice President Sara Duterte.
During the Senate Session No.54 in the Third Regular Session on June 9, 2025, Escudero took his oath following the Senate minority’s move to open the impeachment trial.
At the session, Senator Joel Villanueva moved the opening of the trial for impeachment, as well as Escudero’s oath taking. Escudero granted the motion.
Villanueva likewise moved that the senator-judges in the trial take their respective oaths on June 10, 4 o’clock in the afternoon, with the impeachment court convening on June 11.
Earlier today, Senator Risa Hontiveros revealed that the minority bloc will move to formally request the start of the impeachment process, after the previous delays in schedule.
