Manila, Philippines – Following the recent calamities that hit the Philippines during the last few months, the European Union pledges €1.25 Million in humanitarian aid as a response to the impacts of these disasters.
The fund, equivalent to P85 million, will provide emergency assistance to the individuals heavily affected by the damages brought bu Typhoons Tino and Uwan.
Particularly, this assistance will be used to address the needs of individuals displaced due to the typhoon, as well as to support the communities affected by the recent earthquake in Cebu.
€250,000 or P17 million of this fund will be allocated to support the Philippine Red Cross in helping displaced individuals after the earthquakes that hit Cebu, who may possibly be affected by floodings and landslides linked with the typhoons.
The assistance will be allotted to provide shelter items like sleeping kits and household items, as well as cash grants for basic necessities.
The fund shall also provide for healthcare and water and sanitation activities.
This allocation is in addition to the €8.5 million or Php 578.6 M released by the EU in humanitarian aid and disaster preparedness for the Philippines this year.
This includes Php 88.50 M allocated to address needs of victims of tropical cyclones in July and September, as well as the P85 million to the victims of Cebu and Davao quake.—Mia Layaguiin, Eurotv News
