EX-SPEAKER ROMUALDEZ ASURES ‘FULL COOPERATION’ ON ICI INVESTIGATION

Manila, Philippines – Since the flood control scandal broke out, the name of former House Speaker and Leyte 1st District Representative Martin Romualdez were among those tagged in the issue.

Amidst the questions and allegations, Romualdez resigned as the speaker of the House, aiming to face the accusations better even after claims of innocence.

During the past Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearings, Romualdez was tagged as one of the proponents of kickbacks from government projects.

Former Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero, whose name was also tagged in the controversy, pointed to Romualdez as the ‘someone’ behind the scandal.

Despite the accusations, Romualdez firmly denied ties with the anomaly, expressing commitment to cooperate in uncovering the truth.

Last week, the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) invited Romualdez to face the commission leading the investigation on the scandal.

On Tuesday, Romualdez appeared before the ICI, vowing to spill all the information he knew regarding the budget process if this will be significant in uncovering the truth.

In an official statement, Romualdez also stood his ground, arguing that he has nothing to hide and that his appearance aims to be of help in clarifying the issue.

“I have always believed in transparency and accountability, and that’s why I am here today — to do my part in ensuring that the truth comes out.”

“At the end of the day, it is evidence — not political noise or unfounded accusations — that will reveal what really happened.

“My presence here reflects my commitment to state the truth and not allow politics to prevail,” Romualdez stated.

He also said that he hopes that with his participation, the investigation will progress and come up with a resolution without delay.—Mia Layaguin, Eurotv News
