FISHERMAN WENT MISSING AFTER IT’S MOTORBANCA HIT BY UNIDENTIFIED VESSEL IN MASBATE

MANILA PHILIPPINES – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) responds to a reported collision between a fishing motorbanca and an unidentified vessel in the vicinity waters off Burias Island, Masbate, on 10 August 2024.

According to the Coast Guard Station (CGS) Masbate, investigation revealed that at around 2AM of the said date, 37-year-old Roland Marientes, and his brother, 23-year-old Roldan Marientes, were asleep when an unidentified vessel collided with their boat, MBCA Dandan.

At around 11AM, the older fisherman was sighted and rescued by MV Virgen De Penafancia XII of
Starhorse Shipping Lines Inc. while transiting Burias Island en route to Masbate City Port.

However, his 23-year-old brother remains missing.

PCG is still verifying the flag of the said vessel collided with the motor banca of the victims.

The Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) San Pascual in Masbate continues search and rescue (SAR) operations and coordinates with neighboring barangays, including local fisherfolk, for possible sightings of the missing fisherman.
