Manila, Philippines – First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos clarified that her statement made against Senator Imee Marcos allegations that are circulating online are fake news.
This is regarding the alleged use of prohibited and illegal drugs by the First Family said by the senator during the second day of the Iglesia ni Cristo rally at Quirino Grandstand.
The First Lady called these claims fake news, even describing them as “Pinoy style.”
In a Facebook post by the First Lady, one example of her supposed statement circulating online can be seen.
According to the quote card accompanying her photo, although she respects Senator Imee as her husband President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s sister, she said that just like the statements made at the rally, the alleged quotes about the senator are fake and digitally altered.
Although she originally did not want to discuss these fake news statement, she still took a jab in a separate post after being visited by a group of foreigners, composed of producers and directors aiming to bring Hollywood to the Philippines.
She said that it is only in the Philippines where you can find the “Pinoy style,” similar to fake news, where a fabricated story is messy, lacks direction, and ends badly, ultimately affecting the community the most.
Meanwhile, in a separate post, Senator Imee Marcos also denied a statement and said that she never said it.
The senator also reminded people to be careful of fake statements read online, which only add unnecessary noise and are unhelpful.
It is worth remembering that Palace Press Officer and Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro previously stated that baseless accusations should be considered fake news.
