Manila, Philippines — Filipinos can enjoy free rides on the LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3 today, Friday, December 20, as announced by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
In a statement yesterday, President Marcos emphasized that the initiative aims to provide relief to Filipinos and reflect the government’s care for its citizens during the Christmas season.
The initiative is intended to ease transportation expenses during the holiday rush and is expected to benefit at least 1.1 million passengers.
Transportation Secretary Cesar Chavez noted that the Friday before Christmas is typically the busiest travel day, with commuters heading to major bus terminals in Metro Manila for trips to the provinces.
Chavez also clarified that the Office of the President (OP) will shoulder the cost of the free rides, compensating the train operators for their lost revenue.
The free rides will be available throughout the trains’ operating hours.
