Manila, Philippines – Almost 2 months into charge, dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo pleads ‘not guilty’ over a material misrepresentation case filed against her.
During her virtual arraignment at Tarlac Regional Trial Court Branch 66 today December 5, Guo pleaded innocence over her 2022 elections’ material misrepresentation case charged by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC).
October previously, the COMELEC formally accused Guo of violating Section 74 of the Omnibus Election code when she filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) for a mayoral position during the 2022 national and local elections.
COMELEC noted Guo willfully and unlawfully committing the violation by declaring and pledging an oath of being eligible to the position despite being a Chinese citizen.
Meanwhile, Guo’s lawyer, Atty. Nicole Jamila confirmed the not guilty plea and plans to post bail, thereafter.
She then stressed that the offense at hand is a bailable charge, and will post bail until next week after completing necessary requirements.
Aside from the case, Guo’s plate is still full with all other charges.
These include qualified human trafficking over POGO, graft, tax evasion, 87 counts of money laundering, perjury, falsification, quo warranto petition, and petition to cancel her birth certificate.
Guo, however, has denied all the allegations.
