Legend meets legend!
Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz recently met with Apo Whang-Od, the Philippines’ oldest and most renowned mambabatok.
In an Instagram post by Hidilyn’s husband and coach, Julius Naranjo, the weightlifter received Whang-Od’s signature three-dot tattoo on her arm.
Naranjo described the moment as a meeting of two living legends—one renowned for preserving Filipino culture and the other for her groundbreaking achievements in sports.
“Last week I had the chance to meet a living legend in @apowhangod and I was quickly reminded that I was actually with two living legends. One culturally and one through sports (@hidilyndiaz). Both women embody strength & empower beauty through their talents and achievements,” Naranjo captioned.
Meanwhile, Naranjo also received a sleeve tattoo from Whang-Od’s protégé, Grace, representing courage and resilience.
