HOUSE APPROVES IMPEACHMENT AGAINST VP SARA

House of Representatives, Batasan — Out of the three impeachment complaints filed against Vice President Sara Duterte, the House of Representatives has finally taken action, leading to her impeachment.

Ilocos Norte Rep. Sandro Marcos, on February 5, 2025, spearheaded the signing of the impeachment complaint against VP Sara Duterte.

Speaker Martin Romualdez was the last to sign the said complaint.

After 215 out of 306 members of the House signed, the impeachment of the vice president was pushed forward.

Following the plenary session in the House, the copies were immediately brought to the Senate by Secretary General Reginald Velasco.

Senate Secretary Renato Bantug received the documents from the House of Representatives at 5:49 p.m.

Meanwhile, Vice President Sara Duterte declined to comment on the impeachment complaint approved by the House of Representatives, saying she wants to review the official statement before reacting.

She said it is difficult to react without reading the details and may lead to an incomplete or excessive response.

HOUSE DESIGNATES 11 PROSECUTORS AMID VP SARA IMPEACHMENT

Following the House of Representatives’ decision to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte from her post, the lower chamber has elected 11 lawmakers that will serve as impeachment prosecutors during the trial.

The 11 prosecutors were named as:

  • Rep. Gerville “JinkyBitrics” Luistro (Batangas, 2nd District)
  • Rep. Romeo Acop (Antipolo, 2nd District)
  • Rep. Ramon Rodrigo Gutierrez (1-Rider Partylist)
  • Rep. Joel Chua (Manila, 3rd District)
  • Rep. Rau Angelo “Jil” Bongalon (AKO Bicol)
  • Rep. Loreto Acharon (General Santos, Lone District)
  • Rep. Marcelino Libanan (4Ps Party-list)
  • Rep. Arnan Panaligan (Oriental Mindoro, 1st District)
  • Rep. Ysabel Maria Zamora (San Juan, Lone District)
  • Rep. Lorenz Defensor (Iloilo, 3rd District)
    -Rep. Jonathan Keith Flores (Bukidnon, 2nd District)

The designated prosecution team will be tasked with defending the House’s decision to impeach Duterte before the Senate.

Here, the Senate will serve as an impeachment court, that will be requiring two-thirds vote to secure a conviction. This is equivalent to at least 16 out of the 24 senators.

All of the 11 lawmakers designated as impeachment prosecutors have legal backgrounds and are members of the Philippine bar.
