HOUSE PROSECUTION TEAM ON VP SARA’S IMPEACHMENT TRIAL ‘80% READY’ — REP. DEFENSOR

Manila, Philippines — With the looming impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte, the House of Representatives says that their prosecution team is 80% ready for the proceedings.

Iloilo 3rd District Rep. Lorenz Defensor on Wednesday confirmed this information, saying that what’s left for the prosecution team is the preparation for the defenses.

Defensor is among the members of the 11 lawmakers that form the House prosecution team.

The lawmaker noted that while the respondent remains in The Netherlands, the prosecution is preparing and anticipating for the possible defenses, and polishing of their strategies.

He also bared that this week, the prosecution is set to meet to further tackle the impeachment articles filed by the team.

Defensor noted that while the prosecution have been meeting on a “per article” basis, every member will still be on board to master all the seven articles of impeachment.

The seven articles of impeachment against VP Sara are as follow:

Article 1: Conspiracy to assassinate President Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and Speaker Martin Romualdez; 

Article 2: Malversation of P612.5 million in confidential funds;

Article 3: Bribery and corruption in Department of Education (DepEd);

Article 4: Unexplained wealth and failure to disclose assets; 

Article 5: Involvement in extrajudicial killings (EJK);

Article 6: Destabilization, insurrection, and public disorder; and

Article 7: The totality of respondent’s conduct as Vice President.

Earlier, the House Prosecution team had conducted a mock-trial, still as part of the preparation for the impeachment proceedings.
