United States – Israel has agreed to a conditional 60-day ceasefire deal with Gaza, according to U.S. President Donald Trump in a post on Tuesday, July 1.
According to Trump, representatives from Qatar and Egypt are set to deliver the final proposal to put an end to the escalating war between Israel and Gaza.
The specific conditions Israel had set have not been elaborated by Trump, but emphasized that talks between involved parties are ongoing.
The truce, if finalized, could lead to temporary relief for thousands of civilians caught in the conflict after months of escalating violence and missile attacks between Israel and Hamas-led forces in Gaza.
Israel is reportedly ready to enforce the ceasefire, while Hamas’ acceptance is still pending, warning that failure to reach an agreement could further escalate the conflict.
Meanwhile, Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, made it clear that the war will only stop if all hostages in Gaza are released and if not, Israel will be forced to increase military pressure.
Around 50 Israeli hostages are still believed to be held in Gaza while about 20 may still be alive. – Jersey Salvaña, Contributor
