KILO/S STORE IN QC REOPENED TO THE PUBLIC, EARNING OF PRELOVED ITEMS WILL GO TO RECOVERY LEARNING FUND

As part of the ongoing initiative of the local government of Quezon City to reduce the number of children who are unable to read and count, they continue to seek additional funds for their Learning Recovery Program for students.

The city has reopened their permanent Kilo/S Kyusi Store where preloved items can be purchased.

Led by Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, the reopening of Kilo/s Kyusi at Lagoon Park within the QC Hall Compound was along with Vice Mayor Gian Sotto.

According to mayor, the reopening of the Kyusi store serves two purposes: to aid students in expanding their Zero Literacy program in QC and to reduce items discarded in landfills that can still be utilized by others.

Earnings from the Kilo/s store will be allocated to literacy recovery funds for their tutorial programs.

“The procceds of sales ay mapupunta po sa programa naming 0 literacy sa QC, alam naman po natin na ayon sa datos talaga namang nasa kulelat ang Pilipinas, Whent it comes to Math and Science so, allthe proceds to our tutorial programs para maiangat po ang antas at kalidad ng ating mga kabataan” Mayor Joy said in an interview

Majority Floor Leader and Quezon City 1st District Councilor Doray Delarmente also has a message for everyone to support the city’s program that will be beneficial to the students of the city.

Councilor Doray said

Inside the said store, you can find various preloved items donated by Quezon City employees, different organizations, and individuals who are their partners.

These include bags, shoes, clothes, accessories, and many more.

These items are sold in two ways: you can purchase clothes by the kilo for around P300, depending on the quantity, or individually priced.

Buyers intentionally come here to support the city’s program, which has noble intentions.

Mayor Joy also encouraged QCitizens and the public to donate their items that are still usable for sale at the Kyusi store, to prevent further waste.

She also advised regarding the purchase of clothes, suggesting that item are rarely used over time should not be bought

“Hinihikayat po natin ang ating mga Qcitixen na mag donate ng kanilang mga preloved items na maganda pa yung kalidad pero ayaw na nila, pinagsawaan na nila imbis na itapon ito sa mga land fields natin na nagiging waste ay idonate na lang nila dito sa Kilo/s Kyusi.” The Mayor added

Aside from the reopening of the permanent Kilo/s Kyusi store, the Lagoon Park, which has long been closed to the public by QC, is now open for free to QCitizens and visitors from other cities.

The mayor also mentioned that they are planning to add more stores inside to attract more visitors.

Last year, the city was able to raise over P1 million in funds, which were used to deploy 137 tutors that accomodate over 1,272 students from 25 schools in QC.

Each student received 50 hours of instruction over the course of 25 sessions.

Meanwhile, Kilo/s Kyusi here at Lagoon Park is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

The city aims to assist or further develop the knowledge and skills of over 50,000 students in public schools by next year or by the year 2025.
