MANILA — Labor leaders Leody de Guzman and Luke Espiritu have formally accepted their nominations from the Partido Lakas ng Masa as candidates for the Senate in the upcoming 2025 elections.
De Guzman, who has previously run for senator and also sought the presidency in 2022, reiterated his platform during the party’s convention in Marikina City.
“Tumakbo na naman akong Senador at saka Presidente kaya kung ano yung aking dala na plataporma [noon] ay yun pa din naman ulit dahil wala namang nabago eh,” said De Guzman, emphasizing the continued relevance of his platform.
He added that taxing the wealthiest individuals should be a priority, saying, “Tingin namin dapat ang i-tax na ngayon dahil sa hirap ng buhay ay yung mga bilyonaryo yung kumikita nang malaki.”
Espiritu, who also ran for Senate in 2022, shared his intent to appeal to those disillusioned with traditional politics. He promised to advocate for an anti-political dynasty bill if elected.
“Dapat itong mga dynasty na ito itulak yan ng taongbayan para mag-harakiri na sila,” Espiritu declared.
De Guzman serves as the president of Partido Lakas ng Masa, while Espiritu is the president of Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino. Espiritu also represents groups such as the Teachers Dignity Coalition, Philippine Movement for Climate Justice, and Power for People Coalition, focusing on education, environmental, and energy issues.
