LANDSLIDE IN CHINA, CAUSED 47 PEOPLE BURIED UNDERGROUND

Forty-seven people were buried under the ground after a landslide occurred in a town in the southwestern part of China.

About 18 households were buried in the landslide, and more than 200 people were immediately evacuated from the area. The landslide started at around five in the morning in Zhenxiong County, Yunnan Province.

More than 200 rescuers including 33 firefighting vehicles and 10 loading machines were deployed to help and search for the missing persons.

Authorities did not immediately say if anyone had died in the landslide and there was no immediate official explanation of what may have caused the landslide.

China has experienced a series of natural disasters these recent months, some are extreme weather events such as sudden, heavy downpours.
