Kawit, Cavite — The Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, General Rommel Francisco Marbil, and Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary (DILG) Jonvic Remulla officially padlocked the Island Cove Philippine offshore gaming operator POGO hub today, December 17.
This closure came a month earlier than the December 31 deadline for shutting down all POGOs and internet gaming licensees (IGLs) in the country, as mandated by the government.
The activity was also accompanied by personnel from the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), the Bureau of Immigration (BI) and the Cavite local government.
Kawit Mayor Angelo Aguinaldo previously estimated that approximately 7,000 Cavite residents employed by Island Cove POGO would be affected.
Island Cove previously ended its activities on November 30.
