LAW ENFORCEMENT UNIT CRACKING DOWN ILLEGAL JEEPNEYS ON THE ROAD

Manila, Philippines—The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said on Thursday that the Land Transportation Office, Metro Manila Development Authority, and Philippine National Police will lead the flagging down of unconsolidated jeepneys on May 16.

The LTFRB also reminded reconsolidated jeepneys to display their franchise documents on the dashboard, as authorities will check the serial numbers during inspections.

“Authorities will check the serial number on the document issued by the LTFRB displayed on their jeepneys during the operations that started on May 16,” the LTFRB said in a statement.

All operators who did not join the government’s Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) will be apprehended by the LTO, MMDA, and PNP.

After the 15-day grace period from May 1 to May 15 granted by the LTFRB to unconsolidated jeepneys, old franchises will be declared illegal or colorum.

Meanwhile, the LTO will deploy more personnel to support the LTFRB in nationwide anti-colorum operations.

“The deployment of our personnel will complement the manpower of the LTFRB as well as other law enforcement agencies tapped to assist in enforcing our anti-colorum operations,” said Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza.

Following the directive of Department of Transportation (DoTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista, the agency aims to ensure that only legitimate operators and drivers are on the routes.

Asec. Vigor Mendoza warned operators and drivers of colorum vehicles about the increased personnel on the road.

“Our operation is not only to help legitimate transport operators and drivers but also to ensure the safety of commuters,” said Asec. Mendoza.
