Manila, Philippines – Foreign Affairs Secretary Maria Theresa Lazaro led the Philippine delegation to the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) held in New York.
Lazaro called on the international community to embrace multilateralism amid increasingly complex regional challenges globally.
As a representative of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Lazaro also conveyed the Philippines’ position on issues facing the world.
The Philippines is aiming to secure a seat on the UN Security Council, seeking to leverage the platform for issues facing the Philippines in the Indo-Pacific region.
Meanwhile, on the sidelines of the UNGA, Lazaro had 35 bilateral meetings with various counterparts in various countries for partnerships in health, environment, renewable energy, and security, while advancing the Philippines’ candidature to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2027-2028.
The Philippines also signed agreements with Hungary, Panama, Maldives, and Togo to strengthen relations including climate actions and the establishment of political consultations.—Alvin Pelobello, Eurotv News
