LAZARO: TAIWAN INDEPENDENCE IS AN INTERNAL AFFAIR OF CHINA

Manila, Philippines – The Philippines has reiterated that Manila has no stance on the issue of Taiwan Independence against China.

This was emphasized by Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro during a hearing of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations on Friday.

Senator Imee Marcos asked the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) about the country’s statements regarding the Taiwan Strait issue.

Lazaro insisted that Manila continues to abide by the One China Policy, and that the Philippines is putting China aside and resolving its internal issue with Taiwan, particularly the Cross-Strait matters.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had previously said during his state visit to India that the Philippines’ only interest in Taiwan is the welfare of the nearly 200,000 Filipinos based in Taipei.

Meanwhile, the DFA also denied direct contact with Taiwan regarding the alleged visit of the Taiwanese Minister to the country.

In the end, the DFA maintained that if tensions with Taiwan worsen, Manila will return to its call for reprimand and retaliatory measures.—Alvin Pelobello, Eurotv News
