LRMC, INVESTIGATE THE ALLEGED MISUSE OF PWD PRIORITY LANE AT LRT-1 MONUMENTO STATION

Manila, Philippines – The Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) has conducted a thorough investigation into the viral video of a man who allegedly pretended to be a PWD, or with mobility impairment, to queue in the priority lane of the LRT-1 Monumento Station.

The video shared by its uploader shows a man walking with a limp while approaching the priority lane of the LRT-1 station, after which he joined the queue to quickly get a ticket.

Online netizens criticized the said video.

According to the LRMC, it clearly shows an abuse of the privilege reserved for genuine PWDs.

It clarified that the priority lane is not a “shortcut” to be used by an individual who does not need extra assistance and consideration.

The agency added that having a disability should not be used as content; it is not a joke, and it should not be used as a punchline or life hack.

The agency also strictly reminded the public that the use of the priority lane is only for genuine senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), pregnant women, and passengers with children.

Meanwhile, the agency calls on all commuters to show respect for the priority passages to maintain a culture of courtesy within the said station.—Grachella Corazon, Eurotv News
