LTFRB ISSUES SCO VS. 4 BUS COMPANIES OVER POOR PASSENGER TERMINALS

Manila, Philippines – Four bus companies are now under Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board’s scrutiny over poorly maintained terminal for passengers.

Following the surprise inspections conducted by LTFRB among various bus terminals in Quezon City, four companies were pointed out as having passenger terminals in poor quality and condition.

With this, Belleza Transport Corporation, Mega Bus Lines Corp, Eaglestar Transit Corporation; at Elavil Phils Tours Inc. were issued with showcause orders to appeal their case.

Inspection reports noted that each company have atleast 10 violations under the rules and regulations imposed on passenger terminals, even in minimum requirements.

These violations include insufficient roofing for passengers, no decent and separate comfort rooms for male, female, and person with disability.

Security measureas were also found lacking, like CCTVs and baggage inspection, as well as having no PWD ramps.

Via the SCO, the companies are ordered to explain why their Certificate of Public Conveyance (CPC) to legally operate public transportations should not be revoked.

The consilidated hearing for the four companies are set on February 11.

LTFRB Chairperson Atty. Vigor Mendoza vowed that these 4 companies are just the beginning of the agency’s crackdown agaisnt illegal and poorly-maintained bus terminals.

“The issuance of the SCO against four bus companies is just the beginning. Filipino commuters should expect daily monitoring and quick action from their LTFRB in the interest of their right for safe and comfortable travel experience.”

This is proof that we are serious when we said that we will run after those that do not comply with the basic standard on what bus terminals and public transportations must be,” Mendoza said.

He likewise assured daily monitoring and immediate action to promote safe and comfortable travel experience for Filipino commuters.
