Manila, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has acknowledged the petition of various transport groups to implement a P2.00 increase in the minimum fare for jeepneys.
Following the call for jeepney fare hike, LTFRB said that the board is still set to review the petition that pushes to increase the minimum fare to P15.00 from the present P13.00.
LTFRB noted that they understand the challenges faced within the transportation sector that may have encouraged the proposal of the said petition, including the continuous oil price hike and expensive living costs in the country.
However, the board clarified that they also need to consult other members of the sectors, such as commuters, who are similarly affected with high prices and costs.
“While we remain committed to ensuring that their livelihood is sustainable, we must also carefully balance this with the welfare of commuters who are equally affected by the current economic conditions,” said LTFRB.
LTFRB assured that they will come up with a decision that is both fair and equitable for drivers and operators, and commuters as well.
“The LTFRB is reviewing the petition thoroughly and will consider all relevant factors, including fuel price trends, inflation rates, and the overall economic impact on the riding public,” the board added.
