LTO DEMANDS EXPLANATION FROM OWNER, DRIVER OF TRUCK IN CHAIN COLLISION ACCIDENT IN MARIKINA

Marikina City — Following the multiple vehicular crash in Marikina on Wednesday night, the Land Transportation Office summoned the registered owner and driver of the trailer truck that started the chain collision.

In a press release, LTO said that a show cause order has been issued against the owner and the driver to explain their side of the accident, as part of the initial investigation on the case.

It can be recalled that on wednesday night, a fatal road tragedy occurred at Marikina road, after the truck, which was loaded with a 40-foot container van suddenly stopped and moved backwards crashing with other vehicles following it.

According to the police report, the truck lost its break, and while in reverse, it overturned and crushed three vehicles.

Since the area  was in the ascending part of the road, the backward motion triggered a chain reaction, colliding with two more vehicles.

During the incident, three people were confirmed dead, reportedly a jeepney driver and two from one of the vehicles involved. 10 others were injured.

LTO noted that the SCO and the investigation will help authorities determine if there were any violations in terms of truck maintenance that may have caused the accident.

“We want to know what really happened, and part of it is to determine if there were lapses on the part of the registered owner in terms of truck maintenance and the condition of the driver at the time of the accident,” LTO said.

The truck driver is now under police custody and may be punishable with reckless driving and being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle if proven guilty.
