Manila, Philippines – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) preventively suspended the license of the driver of the oil tanker that rammed motor vehicles in Pandacan, Manila over the weekend.
LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza said a show cause order was already issued against both the registered owner and the driver of the oil tanker, who are residents of Malabon City.
Mendoza added that part of the investigation is to determine the road worthiness of the truck, considering that there was a report that the road crash happened when the truck lost its brakes.
Based on the viral video of the incident, the oil tanker was travelling the southbound lane of the Mabini Bridge when it suddenly veered to the right and rammed at least four vehicles in the area.
A motorcycle rider was taken to the hospital as a result of the incident
The two were also asked to submit a written explanation why they should not be held liable for operating with defective equipment and parts while the owner was tasked to explain why he should not be penalized for employing a reckless driver.
The driver, on the other hand, faces reckless driving and improper person to operate a motor vehicle, an offense with a maximum penalty of revocation of driver’s license.
Asec. Mendoza said the oil tanker was also placed under alarm pending the result of the investigation and to compel their appearance during the hearing.
