San Francisco, Southern Leyte — Residents of Southern Leyte were awakened by a magnitude 5.9 earthquake early morning of January 23, 2025.
Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported that the center of the quake was recorded 10 kilometers southeast of the municipality of San Francisco around 7:39 a.m.
Intensity III was recorded in the municipalities of Palo, Dulag, Ormoc City, and Carigara in Leyte.
Intensity IV was felt in Hinunangan and Maasin, Southern Leyte, while Intensity V was recorded in Padre Burgos, Southern Leyte.
PHIVOLCS warned residents in the area of possible aftershocks and other damages following the tremor.
